Staff Analyst / Associate Staff Analyst within the Background Investigations Unit

The Human Resources Division of the NYC Transit Authority is a Staff Analyst for the background investigations team. This position is responsible for conducting confidential background investigations for all new and promotional employees which includes verification of education, experience and criminal history.
The major activities will be to evaluate and make employment recommendations and achieving case closure based on the results of external vendor findings, fingerprint reports, New York State criminal history record searches, candidate statements, internal verification processes and communications with NYC Transit hiring departments regarding confidential matters.
In addition, the incumbent will work with NYC Transit’s external vendor to assist the New York City Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) with their investigations on Transit employees including their request for employee files, notifying employees to contact DCAS and data entry of the conclusion for each case.
The incumbent will also work on special projects, as needed, and be responsible for recording the findings of fingerprint reports of employees that are investigated directly by Transit and data entry of all investigative results including those received from DCAS as well as processing arrest notifications to the appropriate departments within Transit.
This position is based in downtown Brooklyn.
Education and Experience:
Associate Staff Analyst / Staff Analyst II
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in Business or Public Administration, Economics, Accounting, Finance, Operations Research, Human Resources Management, Management Science, Organizational Behavior, Industrial Psychology, Statistics, Personnel Administration, Labor Relations, Psychology, Sociology, Human Resources Development, Political Science, Urban Studies or a related field and three (3) years of satisfactory full-time professional experience; OR
Staff Analyst I
A Baccalaureate degree in one of the areas described above and two (2) years of full-time professional experience; OR
A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience.
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication and organizational skills. • Attention to Detail. • Knowledge of PeopleSoft and the ability to write queries in PeopleSoft.
