GHD has an opening in our Chantilly, VA office for a Sr. Security Design Specialist. In this role the successful candidate would be responsible for consulting, engineering and design of small, medium, and large, security systems and their respective infrastructure support systems. This includes producing security engineering documentation (i.e. engineering drawings and installation specifications), security risk assessments and vulnerability Assessments.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Conduct risk assessments
Discuss, plan and design all aspects of Electronic Security Systems from multiple manufacturers including: a) Physical Access Control Systems; b) Intrusion Detection Systems; c) Video Assessment and Surveillance Systems; d) Intercommunications systems; e) Force protection systems (bollards, barriers, gates, etc.)
Produce design and engineering documents, including engineering drawings and specifications
Engage in discussion on these and other security subjects with clients both detailed and high level
Estimate workload and other costs for planning and design tasks in order to develop scopes of work and proposals
Track performance and manage your time against contractual agreements
Prepare and present reports on performance, issues, considerations, etc. to clients
Conduct site surveys for existing conditions documentation and building conditions assessments
Conduct interviews and workshops to ascertain security design requirements
Coordinate system layout and drawings with other disciplines such as mechanical, electrical and architectural design for lighting parameters, HVAC parameters, and IT/IS specialist.
Inspect work in progress and completed work during
Witness commissioning of security systems
Consult on antiterrorism and force protection measures including ISC and UFC requirements.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Department Head, or Project Manager.
Bachelor’s degree in related field or demonstrated equivalent combination of education, skills, knowledge, abilities and experience
12+ years of relevant recent experience
Familiarity with expansion planning (updating existing) and new systems implementations for security systems
Familiarity working with and/or directing other A/E team members and contractors in the planning, design, and implementation of these systems
Understanding of supportive infrastructure for these systems, cabling, conduit, terminations, head end and distributive equipment
Adept and skilled at interacting directly with clients
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite of Products
Working knowledge of design guidelines and building codes
Federal work experience and Revit/BIM knowledge desirable.
PSP or CPP certifications desirable
Intern Engineer (EIT) or Professional Engineering License desirable
