Reporting to the Director, Corporate Security, the Loss Prevention Officer is responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and secure retail environment that looks to protect our staff, customers, business partners and our physical assets while demonstrating positive and professional behavior. The incumbent will partner with our operational management teams to ensure corporate product loss is minimized. The incumbent works closely with both internal and external stakeholders to maintain the security and integrity of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries and protect corporate assets.
Duties: • Deter, detect and apprehend theft suspects. • Make arrests when possible and can be done safely. Detain suspect(s) until police arrive or transport suspects(s) to Police Station. • Monitor customers, visitors and guests entering the building; check and validate identification as required; complete visual inspection of bags and parcels; conduct pat downs; refuse entry and remove persons off property, as applicable (i.e. minors, disorderly persons, trespassers, exclusions, intoxicated persons). • Detect instances of financial and physical shrink and communicate findings and liaise with Corporate Investigations and the Director, Corporate Security. • Detect and identify potential shrinkage opportunities. • Support store evacuation procedures in case of fire or other emergencies. • Work closely with internal departments and external stakeholders to gather evidence, and to carry out/support investigations, as required. • Present evidence for the purpose of court or arbitration hearings. • Collect, handle, store and document evidence to ensure the integrity of investigations. • Report physical security concerns and assist in assessing requirements for security equipment or measures to protect corporate assets. • Recommend security and loss prevention procedures as required. • Participate in resolution of liability issues. • Respond to alarms, while on shift. • Determine violation of laws, policies, compliance regulations, and procedures, and recommend appropriate resolutions or actions. • When directed, provide reports to law enforcement agencies according to established procedures. • Conduct follow-up investigations from initial reports, when required. • Prepare and submit regular project and activity reports to Director, Corporate Security. • Prepare and submit required logs, video, statements and reports. • Provide security/compliance and loss prevention briefings to staff when requested by management. • Provide input to the Director, Corporate Security identifying deficiencies and requirements for training. • Provide escort to company assets being taken off property, as required. • Attend court proceedings and meetings, as required. • Act as exhibit custodians for evidence, as required (turning over counterfeit monies to law enforcement, etc.). • Other related duties as assigned.
Primary Qualifications: • Grade 12 Diploma. Post-Secondary Education related to Criminology/Justice & Law Enforcement or equivalent work experience. • A minimum of three years working in a security, surveillance or loss prevention environment, with experience in conducting investigations, interviewing, preparing detailed written investigation reports, taking statements, seizing evidence and exhibits and making arrests. • A valid Province of Manitoba Security Guard license. • Knowledge of applicable legislation and agreements. • Have and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 4 Drivers License or ability to obtain on the job. • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook). • Must be physically capable of performing all duties of the position as determined by a physical/medical assessment. • Ongoing professional development is required to remain current in the profession. • Strong analytical and organizational skills, and attention to detail. Secondary Qualifications: • Bilingual (French/English) language skills.
