Provides continuous patrol of the campus and performs functions for the security and safety of individuals and property. Acts as first responder to all calls for assistance, performs investigations, and provides documentation and follow-up. Identifies hazards and recommends measures to reduce safety and security risks and exposure.

•Protect and safeguard students, employees, visitors, their property and College property and protect the campus against threats to welfare that result from unsafe acts, safety hazards, environmental hazards, and infractions of civil, criminal, or College regulations. •Identify threats to security and safety through routine patrol and ongoing inspections of grounds, and facilities. •In collaboration with Student Life, conduct investigations of College rule violations and criminal acts involving students. •Establish control measures in a timely manner to eliminate or minimize safety risks to College community members and security of properties. Recommend measures for crime prevention and deterrence. •Participate in developing and delivering fire safety training programs and perform monitoring of emergency fire egress and equipment in residence halls and other campus buildings. •Respond to calls for assistance from the College community in a wide variety of scenarios that relate to the public safety and general welfare of the College community. •Document and investigate reported incidents and requests for assistance. •Provide liaison and coordination with outside emergency response services. (i.e.: Police, Fire, EMS). •Perform the duties of dispatching during dispatcher breaks and other times as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education required to ensure success in this position: •High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
Experience required to ensure success in this position: •Up to 1 year experience or expertise in areas of safety, security, law enforcement, assets protection, occupational safety, law enforcement, or related areas, preferred.
Special skills, knowledge and abilities: •General knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, crime prevention and/or public safety and security issues. •Must be able to professionally handle sensitive and confidential information. •Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. •Ability to use conflict resolution and deescalate adverse situations. •Ability to make appropriate judgments under pressure in response to situations including but not limited to emergencies. •Must be able to establish effective working relationships with faculty, staff and students. •Routinely exercise discretion and superior judgment and have the ability to perform under diverse conditions with little margin for error and complete duties with-out close supervision, within defined policy and procedures. License, certification, or registration necessary: •Valid Kentucky Operator’s License. •Certification in First Aid and CPR (May be obtained within 6 months after start date)
Physical requirements: •Must be able to communicate effectively through use of telephone, radio and computer and be able to monitor auditory and visual data provided by alarms and cameras. •Mobility is necessary. •Requires stooping, bending, occasional running, lifting up to 75 pounds. •The position can be physically demanding and requires the officer to respond to calls for assistance quickly in all types of weather, on foot or by vehicle, around the clock and under the duress of emergency situations. Environmental conditions: •Work environment encompasses the entire campus including out-of-doors. •Must be able to respond quickly to calls for assistance in all types of weather, on foot or by vehicle, around the clock and in emergencies.
