The University of Tennessee at Martin seeks a Director of Public Safety. This is a senior-level management position reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration. The Director of Public Safety is responsible for directing UT Martin's efforts to provide a safe, secure and orderly environment for members of the campus community and visitors to the campus. This responsibility is fulfilled through crime prevention activities and education, enforcement activities, and extensive interactions with students, faculty, staff members, non-campus individuals, groups that frequent the campus or which are otherwise impacted by and have an impact on the university.
Responsibilities This position directs the operations of the Department of Public Safety. Other related operational tasks include the following: plans for special events, coordinates with campus and law enforcement activities, commands responsibilities, directs the progress of criminal investigations, conducts safety and crime prevention surveys, reviews daily terrorism intelligence reports and emails from Tennessee Fusion Center and FBI, and oversees campus security campus systems. This position serves as a member of the Joint Terrorism Task Force working group for West Tennessee and of the University Working group of West Tennessee FBI.
The position has administrative tasks which include managing budgets and personnel, developing operational plans, and reviewing crime reports, maintenance complaint reports, and administrative documents. This position chairs the Parking Authority Committee, resolves parking complaints, and hears parking appeals. The Director is responsible for statistical reports including Clery, TIBERS, and the Annual Security Report.
The Director is also responsible for meeting with on-campus and community groups. The Director meets with students, faculty, and staff, individually and in groups, regarding specific safety, concerns, security, and parking. The Director also meets with civic groups as a university representative and makes speeches. The Director manages the RAVE alert text system and is a source for Criminal Justice majors. This position monitors weather situations and communicates dangers and cancellations to the university campus. The Director engages with a variety of professional groups and serves on several safety and security related committees.
