Facility Security, Safety, Security System-Access Control
As a member of the Housing & Residence Life (HRL) IT department, the Access Control Technician helps to ensure consistent and reliable operation of card-based electronic door access for employees, students, and guests in HRL facilities. This includes configuring, installing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining electronic door access control devices. This position is also responsible for managing door access through the University-wide CBORD® CS Gold® access control system. The Access Control Technician reports to the Assistant Director of IT Operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Monitor electronic access control system and device performance on a daily basis and perform routine preventative maintenance.
Manage battery replacement schedules.
Investigate reports of service interruption or equipment failure, diagnose problems, and replace faulty equipment.
Configure, install, and test cabling, wiring, control panels, electronic door locks, readers, door position switches, request-to-exit devices, audible alarms, and other hardware related to the access control system.
Assist in purchase of access control equipment for renovations or new construction.
Develop equipment specifications and review and interpret construction drawings.
Solicit quotes for materials and services, and coordinate contractor work, ensuring adherence to quality standards and project deliverables.
Coordinate installation of network jacks, electrical power, and other related infrastructure.
Perform electronic access control programming of patron groups and door schedules in CS Gold®, following departmental security policies and procedures.
Keep records of work and track hardware inventory.
Prepare and submit reports as requested.
Assist the IT team with other computing needs as requested, such as configuring desktop computers, troubleshooting connection problems, and performing audits of inventory and assets.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS - Employee will be required to lift various weights, climb ladders and stairs in order to complete jobs. The use of both hands and a repetitive motion will be required while performing duties.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $25 - $30 per hour (equivalent to $52,000 -$62,400) depending upon experience and relevant qualifications.

Preferred qualifications (but not required):
Associates degree in electronics and/or computer hardware
Access control industry certification or successful completion of access control vendor courses
Experience with CBORD® or equivalent access control management software
Experience in contract administration or trades supervision
Knowledge, skills, and abilities needed:
Advanced organizational, time management, and project management skills.
Ability to provide excellent customer service and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and partners.
Ability to work independently and to be flexible and agile in meeting the demands of unexpected work or problems
Ability to read and understand construction drawings, flow charts, block diagrams, and service manuals.
Proficient in the use of a computer, with working knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems, Web-based applications, and common office applications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
3 years of experience troubleshooting, installing, repairing, inspecting, and maintaining electronic building access control devices, door/lock hardware, and wiring.
Current and valid U.S. driver's license.
