This is a full-time (40 hours a week) faculty position within the NOVA Workforce division. The work schedule varies and the faculty member must be available to teach day, evening, and weekend classes.
This position serves as the NOVA Workforce subject matter expert (SME) for IT and cybersecurity. The faculty member develops and delivers technical training classes to prepare adult students for IT industry certification exams. This faculty position must keep students motivated and engaged in diverse learning settings, including 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM boot camp formats. Courses are delivered in a synchronous format in-person, virtually, and/or hybrid. The faculty member may be assigned to any campus upon enrollment and department needs. This position is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the college.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Providing hands-on instruction and practical training for IT certification preparation courses; focus should be on exam objectives
Implementing appropriate learning strategies, lab exercises and activities to successfully prepare students to pass certification exams
Teaching subject material to students in various formats to accommodate different learning styles
Creating instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, student handouts, hands-on lab exercises and training aids)
Modifying, if needed, instructional methods to meet diverse studentsâ™ needs
Being accessible to students and advise them in matters related to their academic knowledge and career skills
Creating and fostering a learning environment that encourages student involvement and participation
Delivering training in both a traditional classroom setting and virtually
Maintaining discipline and order during instructional activities
Evaluating the progress and performance of students
Assisting in curriculum design and development
Assisting in class scheduling and program management
Being an active member of the college and participate in departmental meetings, professional development, and when possible, participate in outreach activities.
Engaging with key stakeholders and external employers/clients when necessary
May be required to perform other duties as assigned.
Extensive experience with successful classroom teaching techniques, delivering technical training for adult learners
Ability to teach individuals from different disciplinary backgrounds and with varying levels of technological experience
Ability to work with groups of varying ages, skills level, and socio-economic backgrounds
Understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principals
Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Critical thinking and problem solving
Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate workload
Ability to work in a team or individually on projects
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances
Bachelorâ™s degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity or similar field or equivalent applicable experience or training
3 years of classroom IT instruction experience
Experience in curriculum design and development
Hold current certifications in at least 3 of the following: CompTIA A+, Network+, Linux+, Security+, and AWS Solutions Architect â“ Associate
