Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students.Â Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associateâ™s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university.Â SWCC also has associateâ™s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.SWCC is seeking a part-time security officer to provide safety and security to students, faculty and staff in a professional, courteous manner through proactive foot and vehicle patrols, positive community engagement, and use of modern crime prevention techniques.Â Â The successful candidate will be able to foster trust within our diverse community and problem solve through collaboration.Â Responsibilities will include: Â Observing and reporting any and all incidents while on campusWalking in and around all buildings on campus (being visible)Maintaining a professional appearance with the public (both visual and with attitude).Opening and securing buildings and class roomsOccasional Mail and Bank deposits and withdrawsBasic upkeep of assigned equipment and toolsDirecting trafficÂ Assisting students, faculty, and visitors with daily calls of service (keys locked in vehicle, boosting vehicle batteries, directions, etc.)Â Following instructions and directives from supervisor
High School Diploma or equivalentMust be able to pass a drug screeningMust be able to pass DCJS Security Officer Training (obtain certificate)Â Must be able to pass CPR training (obtain certificate)Must have a valid driver's licenseCannot have criminal convictions excluding traffic offenses.Must be physically fit enough to walk the campus, stairs, hallways, etc. and stand multiple hours in all types of weather. Â Must possess good communication skillsMust have basic computer skills (for reporting and email)Must be available to work different shifts and weekends upon request
