Arete, an employee-owned company, is a growing research and development firm recognized for contributing to national security objectives by supplying innovative solutions to challenging technical problems faced by the United States. Our Arlington, VA office has an immediate opening for a Senior Industrial Security Officer / Contractor Program Security Officer (CPSO) reporting to the Program Senior CPSO or Director of Security. This is an exempt non-supervisory full-time position.
SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will develop and administer security programs and procedures by managing the “day-to-day” security operations for Collateral, SCI and SAP activities. Seeking an energetic new team member with experience as an FSO (Facility Security Officer) and/or CPSO (Contractor Program Security Officer). The successful candidate will leverage their experience in security policy, facility protection, and risk management to ensure the security of our SCIF’s, SAP’s and programs.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead risk management processes to protect classified materials.
- Oversee SCIF security and implement special access program (SAP) and SCIF security policies, procedures, directives, and requirements.
- Verify materials are classified, handled, and stored appropriately, including in security containers and safes.
- Advise and assist the Government in maintaining all standards required by ICD 705, for Protection of the Information Systems and ICD 705, Physical Security Standards for Secure Rooms up to Special Access and/or SCI Facilities.
- Maintain familiarity with physical security standards for the construction and protection of Sensitive Compartmented Facilities (SCIFs) as proscribed in ICD 705.
- Maintain Operations Security (OPSEC) principles critical for protecting operational activities and security of the SCIF.
- Conduct and annotate entry/exit inspections to deter unauthorized removal of classified information in accordance with DoDM 5205.07-V-3.
- Manage Government compartment management databases and networks.
- Prepare and coordinate security-related briefings and training materials.
- Perform administrative and logistical assistance for the Visitor Control Function.
- Strong knowledge and use of Department of Defense systems and applications which may include: DISS, NISS (ISFD, OBMS, SWIFT, STEPP and eFCL), and ACCS.
- Assist with the preparation and coordination of DD Form 254’s.
- Establish and maintain official files with electronic files management, records management, and file plan management.
- Manage all the physical aspects of the SCIF (alarms, badge access, monitoring, etc.)
- Identify and assist with investigations of any security violations and/or suspected compromises. Notifies, appropriate Government entities as required.
- Maintain a high level of both external and internal customer service with both Government security officers, Prime contractors and Areté employees.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- 10 years’ experience as a CPSO, Senior Security Officer/Facility Security Officer (10 years with BA/BS and 8 years with MA/MBA) or 15 years’ of experience as a Senior Security Officer/Facility Security Officer with no degree.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Current/Active Top Secret security clearance with eligibility for SCI access. Clearance based on investigation current within the last five years.
- Experience in SCIF and SAP security policies, procedures, directives, and requirements.
- Strong knowledge of the NISPOM, DCID, ICD, JSIG, 5200.01 series, 5205.07 series, ICDs, and the aspects specific to the execution of the Industrial Security Program.
- Strong knowledge of all three security domains – Collateral, SAP, and SCI – in both DOD and IC program security.
- Strong written and oral communication skills; strong attention to detail; working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
- Must be able to multi-task and handle multiple projects at the same time.
- Self-Starter requiring minimal supervision.
- Ability to plan, schedule and arrange activities to accomplish objectives.

- DISS and NISS completion of training courses
- Completion of DCSA FSO training courses
- Completion of SCIF buildout courses
