Architects core infrastructure platform for Globus products, and leads the system operations team to design and deliver scalable and secure infrastructure and central services on AWS.Â Â Â Â
Manages delivery of support processes, infrastructure and automation, including configuration management, for service developers to reliably and efficiently deploy code to production. Engages with the engineering team on capacity, and availability planning, monitoring, and optimization, to deliver high availability for services.Â
In partnership with the University CISO, leads security operations to meet required compliance standards.Â Using a risk based approach to cybersecurity and in collaboration with the University IT security team, develops security plans, and policies and procedures; and manages design and implementation of security controls to ensure successful security audits/certification(s).
Plans for and assists the implementation and testing of disaster recovery procedures, and table-top security exercises.
Supports the Globus customer team, providing information on Globusâ™ operations and security policies, and documentation, in support of customer-led security assessments of Globus.Â
Leads availability and security incident response, collaborating with engineering and product team, and coordinating as needed with University CISO and security team. Manages on-call responsibilities and escalations, and assists stakeholders in identifying root causes and resolutions.
Manages the systems operations team, including setting high-level team goals, and facilitating planning and execution. Develops and mentors team members to build a highly effective team.
Counsels decisions on project and infrastructure needs, including the evaluation of server technologies, languages, platforms, and frameworks. Develops timelines and project plans for the team.
Plans and defines specifications for complex installations, maintenance, and upgrades. Identifies and analyzes performance and capacity issues.
Ensures the implementation of approved best practices and information technology policies that result in the highest quality systems administration.
Manages the creation of standards and procedures to maintain production servers that run the operating system. Manages the installation, configuration, and maintenance of operating systems and utility software.
Performs other related work as needed.
5+ years of experience in building and operating infrastructure service.
2+ years experience managing teams.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Proven experience building and supporting performant and reliable services running on cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS.
Expertise in building infrastructure to comply with policy frameworks (such as NIST 800-*, SOC 2, FISMA), and operating services that require security compliance regulation (preferred HIPAA, GDPR).
Experience monitoring and resolving infrastructure performance and security issues.
Knowledge and exposure to container technology and orchestration (ECS, Kubernetes, Docker).
Automation and continuous integration/delivery systems.
Enjoys solving complex and hard problems and can turn incomplete, conflicting, or ambiguous inputs into actionable plans.
