GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Security, the Security Officer-Driver works with Research to drive, operate, and patrol a mobile research unit. This role also performs security officer functions on and off Boys Town National Research Hospital (BTNRH) campuses, including any BTNRH Clinics, facilities, or property as required.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
- Drives a vehicle towing a 30-foot gooseneck trailer carrying research equipment to and from designated locations.
- Completes pre-and post-trip vehicle and trailer inspections, conducts inventory checks before removing the truck and trailer from the given site, and maintains an accurate driving log
- Communicates with Research to coordinate trailer delivery and setup. Delivers and sets up the trailer promptly, avoiding delays. Secures trailer for use, including leveling the trailer and ensuring generator function.
- Coordinates with Facilities to schedule and adhere to maintenance requirements for the truck and trailer and addresses any technical or mechanical issues for the truck and trailer in a timely manner considering the severity of the issue.
- Communicates with Research to schedule and adhere to maintenance requirements for equipment inside the trailer, including computers and audiological equipment.
- Patrols the space occupied by the truck and trailer when parked off BTNRH campus. Enforces hospital safety and security, controls hospital traffic flow and parking. Communicates with representatives of the community partner to understand physical security concerns for the given space.
- Builds relationships with researchers and community partners to help create and ensure a welcoming and safe environment for all, including BTNRH staff, community partners, and community members at large.
- Enforces the BTNRH's security, traffic, and parking policies and procedures. Observes and reports unsafe conditions.
- Makes regular interior and exterior patrols of the BTNRH- Downtown Medical Campus or the BTNRH-Pacific Street Medical Campus using tour tracking systems to ensure that security and safety standards are met and maintained as directed by local policy, post orders, and applicable regulations. Checks all key stations and other designated areas to detect security violations. Investigates and reports incidents involving personal injury, property damage, theft, or vandalism occurring on BTNRH property or areas under Hospital jurisdiction and completes the designated BTNRH reports.
- Assists/Code 10's. Renders routine assistance to all personnel, i.e., employees, patients, and visitors. Escorts personnel to and from vehicles when requested. Responds to routine and/or emergency calls, including Code 10s in the PRTF to utilize the nationally recognized personal restraint training model for assistance and take appropriate actions. Confronts unauthorized personnel.
- Assists with keeping the entrances to the BTNRH-Downtown Medical Campus buildings and the BTNRH-Pacific Street Medical Campus free of trash. Performs snow removal as needed.
- Enforces the 'Tobacco Free' Campus policy.
- Issues various keys and parking decals to employees and/or contractors working at the BTNRH-Downtown Medical Campus, BTNRH-Pacific Street Medical Campus & Affiliated Clinics.

- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Ability to drive, park, and maneuver trailers at least 30 feet long.
- Ability to drive BTNRH vehicles in a safe manner and for long periods.
- Knowledge of operating a battery jump pack to assist with starting vehicles.
- Ability to do snow removal as needed.
- Ability to stand and walk for long periods.
- Frequent conference room staging, including lifting tables and chairs, and moving and rearranging furniture.
- Ability to detect, respond, and report all unsafe conditions accordingly, as needed.
- According to Safe Crisis Management Training, the ability to perform physical restraints, such as Code 10's, or if staff or public safety is threatened.
- Safe and urgent handling of time-sensitive mail items that include lifesaving medications in a timely manner.
- Ability to promote and maintain excellent public relations with patients, visitors, and all employees and maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively, work with various people, and demonstrate cultural humility, kindness, and respect for all people.
REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB:
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- A valid Commercial Driver's License, or able to attain this within 120 days of hire, as well as a favorable driving record, required.
- Travel locally (within 50 miles of Omaha area) and greater distances, including out of state.
- Experience with long-distance driving, preferred.
- Experience with hauling, parking, and maneuvering trailers at least 30-feet in length, preferred.
- Minimum of one year experience in Security, Military, or Law Enforcement, preferred.
- The incumbent must be able to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays.
- Must keep current on BLS (CPR) certification.
- Must be able to work at BTNRH-Downtown Medical Campus, BTNRH-Pacific Street Medical Campus & Affiliated Clinics.
- Must be 21 years of age to work in the Residential Treatment Center (RTC).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Conditions for driving, up to maximum allowable driving hours per day. Requirements for basic vehicle care and maintenance (filling gas tank, checking and filling tires).
- Sedentary to very heavy work.
- Occasionally (0-33% of shift) lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 100 lbs; Frequently (34-66% of shift) lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs; Constantly (67-100% of shift) lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 20 lbs.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, and reaching overhead.
- Per the SCM training and physical intervention requirements; occasional squatting, kneeling, negotiating to the ground into a quadruped position, crawling, and lying on the ground while maintaining a variable static force to restrain a child or simulate restraining.
- Requires functional use of bilateral lower extremities to complete these tasks as the restraint required will dictate employee position and duration of the task, lasting up to 3 minutes.
- Occasional forceful exertion of the upper extremities while restraining a child or simulating restraints that would require function strength and range of motion in the upper extremities and trunk.
- Force is variable depending on restraint, may be up to 50lbs of static force and up to 3 minutes.
- Must maintain hygiene and appearance standards and professional bearing as a first-line representative/ambassador of BTNRH.
WORKING CONDITIONS:

- Activities occur inside and outside, occasionally having to be in temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
- The employee is subject to noise, causing the employee to shout in order to be heard.
- The employee is subject to vibration.
- The employee is occasionally subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, high places (rooftops), exposure to high heat, and possible exposure to various chemicals.
- The employee is subject to environmental conditions such as fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
