SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for Medical Center security incident investigation, crisis response, combative patient intervention, safety-related emergency response, monitoring of advanced access control and surveillance systems. Provide for the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, students, buildings, assets, and premises.
The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 99%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
Functions as Security dispatch officer, answering all calls to Security for assistance, dispatching and receiving radio transmissions to and from officers and other departments, responding and providing direction on fire, smoke, odor, and chemical spills. Monitor Access Control Systems to include investigation of alarms using video and card swipe activity, response to duress alarms, acknowledgement of door alarms, proactive monitoring of surveillance cameras, unlocking and securing of card reader locations upon request, including ability to lockdown the facility, using card holder records to obtain information and confirm identities, dispatches officers when necessary to investigate.
Takes calls for requests to unlock doors, referring to restricted door file for direction.
Completes essential paperwork for the shift, including daily activity logs, activity summaries, incident reports, supplemental reports, etc.
Initiates notifications when necessary for crisis response and serious incidents having impact on the operation of the Medical Center.
Performs outside campus vehicular patrol.
Conducts routine building and campus patrol, reporting safety hazards and mechanical failures.
Controls traffic and parking on campus, issuing parking violations as necessary.
Investigates all traffic accidents and minor incidents on grounds.
Investigates all reported smoke, fire, and odor conditions within outside buildings.
Assists with the security of the helipad during landing and departure of aero-medical helicopters, assisting with patient load or off-load as needed.
Addresses breeches of the no-smoking policy with individual and reports employees to manager.
Responsible for patrol vehicle upkeep, fueling and checking of supplies.
Provides escorts to staff, students, patients, and/or visitors. o Identifies and resolves potential safety hazards and files incident reports as needed.
Performs routine building patrols.
Identifies and makes proper notifications to correct environmental hazards and safety concerns.
Reports doors found unlocked and secures same.
Identifies and investigates/responds to suspicious activity, fire, smoke, or odor conditions and takes corrective measures.
Monitors and addresses inappropriate conduct/behavior and/or activities of persons on the medical center property.
Investigates suspicious behavior and/or activates law enforcement.
Responds to calls for patient/visitor assists utilizing crisis intervention and skills to deescalate/control hostile or violent situations.
Secures and unlocks doors for authorized persons.
Demonstrates competency in roles and responsibilities while responding to emergencies.
Responds to alarm activations, panic alarm activations, and door held conditions.
Responds to all calls for security assistance within the facility to include: Assaults, controlled substances, disorderly conduct, domestic disputes/issues, weapons, employee issue stand by, EOP activations, fires, fraud/forgery, harassing phone calls, harassment, medical emergencies, missing patients, missing persons, missing/found property, noise complaints, non-employee injuries, nuisance phone calls, offenses against families and children, patient abductions, patient assists, patient elopements, patient problems, police assists, property damage, reckless driving, robbery, safety-related reports, sexual assaults, sex offenses, soliciting, staff assists, staff problems, student problems/issues, suspicious activity, theft, threats, trespass, unauthorized activity, vandalism/criminal mischief, unauthorized/forced entry, burglary, violence victims, visitor problems, etc.
Provides patrol of the Emergency Department, assisting with any security-related need, including the restraint of violent and/or uncooperative patients.
Functions as Officer-In-Charge in the absence of the Senior Security Officer and Supervisor. o Maintain all Use of Force requirements to include successful completion of all required training as prescribed by the Manager, Security Services, and the Corporate Director of Security.
The percentage of time spent performing secondary functions is 1%. The following duties are considered secondary to the essential duties listed above:
Provides Workplace violence prevention and parking lot safety information to staff when requested.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High School diploma or equivalent required. Valid Pennsylvania state driver's license.
Graduate of police academy or security course. Six (6) months police or security experience.
