POSITION SUMMARYThe Healthcare Security Officer is responsible for the security and safety of MultiCare's patients, staff, employees and visitors, and protection of MultiCare Health System (MHS) properties.This position requires a high degree of accountability, integrity, physical ability, maturity, and emotional intelligence. The Security Officers position is highly visible and has a high degree of public interaction. Customer service skills are a critical component of this role.Security Officers at MultiCare Health System are expected to be highly trained first responders to incidents on campus, exhibit spirit & discipline, and provide professional security services during stressful and challenging situations that may occur on property. Security Officers provide various services including conducting initial investigation of suspicious and criminal activity; partnering with local law enforcement when necessary, resolving conflicts, providing escorts and other courtesy services, enforcing hospital policies, and responding to emergency situations on campus via patrols conducted both on foot and in vehicles. Duties require considerable standing, walking, and exposure to potentially sensitive and/or violent situations requiring discretion, compassion, collaboration, and professionalism.RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct regular, sustained patrols of MHS property on foot or via motor vehicle.
Enforcing MHS policies utilizing skills, tools, interventions, or force if necessary.
Respond promptly to codes (i.e., Fire), alarms, and other emergencies as well as combative and hostile patients, providing supportive physical holds and applying restraints if needed.
Use conflict resolution skills and training to verbally de-escalate potentially dangerous situations or people. Is able to effectively maintain physical control of patients, suspects, trespassers, or others who present a threat to people or property, detaining, escalating, and communicating as needed.
Write and review security-related documents, such as reports of daily activities, irregularities, and incidents in a timely and accurate manner.
Provide exceptional customer service as well as courtesy services including but not limited to escorts, jumpstarts, unlocks, etc. for staff, patients, and visitors.
Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and calm demeanor in tense situations.
Review surveillance cameras for suspicious activity.
Collaborate with Law Enforcement for situations outside of Security's scope.
Duties are routine within prescribed limits but require exercising independent judgement in emergencies.
Perform related work as necessary.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES-Knowledge of and skill in the use of computers, software (Microsoft Suite), and various platforms utilized for incident reporting and security monitoring.-Ability to use 2-way radio equipment and verbally communicate clearly and effectively.-Ability to wear a 7-lb. vest and use security tools and equipment such as handcuffs, baton, etc.-Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time as well as run and engage in a combative situation to restrain a patient or hostile subject.-Ability to hear with or without a hearing aid, well enough to understand two-way radio communications and typical conversational language.-Establish and maintain excellent communications, professionalism and effective working relationships with colleagues, leadership, and partners in other departments-Ability to see, with or without corrective lenses, well enough to read standard text.-Ability to understand written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents and to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing. -Ability to speak and address individuals clearly and confidently.-Ability to reason logically and calmly and make sound decisions under adverse conditions.-Ability deal respectfully and courteously, but firmly when needed, with the public.-Ability to obtain accurate information through questioning, observation, and recollection of names, faces, and details of incidents.-Ability to follow and adhere to standards for handling confidential and/or sensitive information.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE-High school completion or equivalent, AA preferred-Prior customer service, law enforcement, security, military, Dept of Corrections, or any combination of experience-Demonstrated compassionate customer service skillsCERTIFICATIONS & BACKGROUND
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
IAHSS Basic Certification or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
Possess a valid driver's license, driving history and proof of a safe driving record obtained by a motor vehicle report from Washington State Patrol.
No Felony convictions
