The Campus Security Officer will create and maintain a safe and secure environment, monitor safety and security concerns, and serve as contact person for emergency personnel in Hennepin Technical College buildings and on surrounding property. As part of the daily work, this position will support the diversity goals of the college. This position will rotate between the Brooklyn Park/Eden Prairie campuses with Brooklyn Park as the home campus.
Specific duties include:
Patrol campus program areas and properties of Hennepin Technical College
Assist the Director of Public Safety and Assistant DPS in monitoring and enforcing safety standards related to OSHA, hazardous materials, fire codes, compliance and safety-related college policies, procedures, and programs.
Respond to campus emergency situations and calls for service
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the smooth functioning of the department
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
At least two (2) years of experience as a Security Patrol Officer, Crime Prevention Officer, or Peace Officer
Associate's degree in Law Enforcement, Paralegal, or related field may substitute for 1 year of experience; Bachelor's degree in above areas may substitute for 2 year of experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
Knowledge of City of Eden Prairie and Brooklyn Park ordinances and applicable State of Minnesota/Federal criminal and civil law as it applies to campus security
Knowledge of Minnesota State and Hennepin Technical College policies and procedures
Knowledge of standard police and security practices including investigation techniques and procedures
CPR and AED certification
Mechanical aptitude sufficient to recognize and temporarily control mechanical emergencies until skilled physical plant personnel arrive
Working knowledge of computer operating systems and related software
Right-to-Know training
Experience with Intrusion alarms, detection and surveillance systems, access control and fire alarm systems
Occupational Safety (OSHA) training
Material Safety Data sheet training
Understanding of lock/keys schedules and related hardware
Able to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation
Able to endure exposure to changes in temperature and temperatures below zero degree Celsius
