At The New School, the Physical Security Technician is a member of the Office of Information Technology. This individual will report and work closely with the Physical Security Engineer , several divisions within the IT department, members of The Office of Campus Safety as well as numerous other divisions throughout the University. Â
The Physical Security Systems Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of university wide physical security systems. These systems include access control, video surveillance, and other related technologies. This position reports to the Physical Security Engineer and will be a member of the university Information Technology team. Â

RESPONSIBILITIES
Install and perform preventive maintenance on access control equipment, including electrified door hardware, security cameras, turnstiles, alarm systems, motion sensors, duress buttons, and keypads.
Diagnose, repair, and replace components of access control devices and IP video products (e.g., IP Cameras, network cables, card readers, turnstiles, alarm devices, WIFI door locks, intercoms, IP-punch clocks).
Exceptional organizational and time management skills, ensuring the timely inspection and repair of campus wide physical security issues.
Demonstrate electrical expertise, including knowledge of digital electronics, AC/DC, Amps, circuits, and understanding of parallel and series termination circuits and their effects.
Ability to properly perform and document periodic testing and maintenance on all access control, video and related campus wide physical security devices, along with the execution of a daily review checklist of key security components.
Perform other assigned comparable or transient duties, which are within the area of knowledge and skills in this job description.
Providing excellent service and support to campus security personnel.
Writing reports and maintaining logs and use Excel to track inventory and analyze data from security systems. Â
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must have 3 years of related experience; preferably field experience including installation and service of access control, alarm monitoring and video surveillance systems, or any other technical hands on experience.
Must be highly motivated and have a desire to learn and develop skills in the physical security field.
Must be able to engage in strenuous physical activity, including climbing stairs, carrying ladders, and other equipment.
Competence with hand and power tools and work in various environments (indoor and outdoor).
Must have strong attention to details and precision in installation and maintenance tasks.
Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word. Â

Lenel S2, Qognify Ocularis, Persona offline and WIFIÂ locks, Fastlane and Orion turnstiles, 2N-IP Intercoms. Signo readers.
Experience in using a Genie lift.
Reading and commenting on architectural diagrams.
OSHA-30 hours certificate. Â
