Protective Service Specialists are full-time, non-sworn, and unarmed security professionals that work alongside both sworn and non-sworn UC Davis Police Department personnel to secure and safeguard the UC Davis campus and UC Davis owned properties. Protective Service Specialists operate keeping in mind their three main goals: to prevent crime, improve safety, and to provide excellent customer service. These goals are met through conducting security patrols both on foot and by vehicle, providing access control, conducting building checks and securing UC Davis building and properties as needed, identifying and reporting all security deficiencies and suspicious activity, assisting with traffic control, conducting crowd management, and providing general security and security related duties for large events and activities on the UC Davis campus, as well as other duties as assigned.
Protective Service Specialists may be assigned to either a fixed post position providing specific duties to a specific building or area of UC Davis, or to general roving posts that cover large areas of the UC Davis campus. Although the UC Davis Police Department's civilian security division operates 24/7 and daytime shifts are available when the need arises and staffing allows, night shifts are more heavily staffed. Work location is primarily in Davis but certain fixed post positions may report to UC Davis owned buildings in Sacramento.
