FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Stella and Charles Guttman Community College, City University of New York, seeks an accomplished practitioner-educator with expertise in Cybersecurity to serve on the faculty and support the culture of teaching and learning across the institution.

This full-time Lecturer, Instructor, or tenure-track Assistant Professor position will begin in Fall 2025. For academic year 2024-2025, full-time Lecturers, Instructors and Assistant Professors are required to teach a 24-hour course load across Guttman?s two 12-week Fall and Spring semesters, and 6-week Fall II intersession (visit the Guttman Academic calendar online for dates). Faculty are expected to teach in person although some courses are taught online or in a hybrid format. Faculty on tenure-track appointments receive reassigned time to pursue scholarship. A record of scholarly production, whether in the faculty member's disciplinary field or in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning, is required for tenure and promotion in a professor position.

For this position, the successful candidate will have expertise in cybersecurity, networking, computer engineering or related Information Technology (IT)/science field, for teaching within the Cybersecurity track of Guttman?s Information Technology program of study. Using interdisciplinary and experiential approaches, the IT Program lays a solid technological and digital knowledge base leading to further study, professional advancement and the opportunity to specialize in cybersecurity. This position will teach topical course areas that include cybersecurity, computer forensics, penetration testing, computer networking, Java programming, web technologies, systems analysis and design, and operating systems.

Guttman faculty are also active members of the College Community through participation in collaborative work initiatives that advance the goals of the College.

QUALIFICATIONS

For a Lecturer position , a Bachelor?s degree in cybersecurity, networking, computer engineering or related IT/science field; and at least one year of successful teaching experience in a college setting (full-time or part-time) required. Due to the interdisciplinary organization of the college, the ability to collaborate well with others in academics, student services and administration is expected.

For an Instructor position , a Master's degree in cybersecurity, networking, computer engineering or related IT/science field, and/or progress towards a Doctorate or equivalent (awarded by start of fall, 2025); and at least one year of successful teaching experience in a college setting (full-time or part-time) required. Due to the interdisciplinary organization of the college, the ability to collaborate well with others in academics, student services and administration is expected.

For an Assistant Professor position , a Ph.D./Ed.D. in cybersecurity, networking, computer engineering or related IT/science field (awarded by start of fall, 2025); and at least one year of successful teaching experience in a college setting (full-time or part-time) required. Due to the interdisciplinary organization of the college, the ability to collaborate well with others in academics, student services, and administration is expected.

Preferred Qualifications :

• A Master?s degree in cybersecurity, networking, computer engineering or related IT/science field is strongly preferred for the lecturer position.
• Documented successful teaching in a community college setting in one or more of the following areas: cybersecurity, computer forensics, penetration testing, computer networking, Java programming, web technologies, systems analysis and design, and operating systems
• Experience with/interest in pedagogical practices central to Guttman's educational model such as learning communities, undergraduate research, project-based learning, inquiry-based learning, experiential education, embedded remediation, civic engagement, electronic portfolios, universal design principles, and peer mentoring.
• Experience with course/program design, assessment, and program management.
• Demonstrated experience with companies in IT industry for student internship and job placement
• Demonstrated capacity to use a diverse range of effective instructional strategies and openness to adopting new practices.
• Ability to work in a highly collaborative, interdisciplinary environment.
• Active, student-centered pedagogy and significant student mentoring experience
• Experience teaching students of diverse racial, ethnic, linguistic and educational backgrounds.
• An understanding of community college students? assets and challenges.
• Experience using current technology as it supports teaching and learning.

Candidates should have demonstrated experience applying the principles of universal design for learning to meet the needs of all learners proactively and with flexibility.

COMPENSATION

Lecturer: $74,575 - $83,764

Instructor: $67,708 - $74,417

Assistant Professor: $79,188 - $90,375;

• CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will increase by approximately 9.54% with an additional increase of 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
