The Security Officer, under general supervision, provides a visible security presence throughout the buildings and property of Tarleton State University. Work hours are generally Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM but could include overnight shifts, as work requirements indicate. Some weekends, events and overtime are required.
Responsibilities:
Patrols buildings and grounds on foot or car and looks for suspicious activity, unlocked doors, fires, vandalism and act as a deterrent to criminal activity by their presence.
Reports all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity to the University Police Department
Provides information to visitors, students, and employees or directs such inquiries to appropriate personnel.
Provides support duty to University Police during instances of special events, e.g. football games, yell practice.
May provide courtroom testimony when appropriate.
May assume 'high profile' status as a deterrent to criminal activity.
Required Education, Experience, Skills
To be qualified at the Security Officer level:
High School graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience
Six months related experience or six months as Security Officer in Training with demonstrated proficiency in all phases of duties performed.
Must have a State of Texas class âœCâ vehicle operatorâ™s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Proposed Minimum Pay: $16.83/hr
To be qualified at the Advanced Security Officer level:
High school graduation or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
One year as a Security Officer or other comparable full-time employment.
Must have a State of Texas class âœCâ vehicle operatorâ™s license or ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Proposed Minimum Pay: $19.23/hr
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Ability to communicate effectively with all segments of the campus population.
Other Requirements: This position requires working outside with varying days off. Applicant must successfully complete a background investigation to include but not limited to driving history, criminal background and credit history.

The target base pay is commensurate with experience and may be negotiable based on funding availability and candidate experience/skillset in relation to the minimum requirements of this position.
