Brief Summary of Work for this Position: The Security Officer position is a non-sworn position responsible for patrolling the buildings and grounds of UNCW Crest Research Park(Center for Marine Science), main campus and other properties owned and or leased by UNCW ensuring that faculty, staff, student and guests are safe. The Security Officer's responsibilities include conducting foot patrols of buildings and grounds in assigned areas such as academic buildings, Randall Library, and Center for Marine Science. The position is responsible for locking/unlocking facilities as scheduled, identifying security risks, making appropriate notifications, responding to calls for service, responding to fire alarms as requested, assisting police officers, assisting motorists/pedestrians, enforcing parking violations, directing traffic in congested areas or during special events, assist guests and visitors with directions and information, provide escort services for university faculty, staff, student, and guests, and other duties as assigned. Based on department need and employee performance, some positions may be selected to advanced levels and assist in the training of new Security Officers. Assignments may also require traveling between UNCW properties.
Position could rotate between Main Campus and Center for Marine Sciences
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: High School diploma or equivalency and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require valid N.C. driver's license.
General knowledge of state law and institutional regulations.
Basic knowledge and skills in the use of basic firefighting equipment (extinguisher).
Knowledge of first aid principles and techniques.
Ability to understand, interpret, apply and enforce institutional regulations.
