Uniformed PSS officers are assigned posts and routinely patrol the facilities and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism and unauthorized entry. During their tours, officers visually examine doors, windows and gates to ensure they remain intact and secure. Each PSS team member is highly trained to maintain an atmosphere that is calming to patients and welcoming to their families while also being able to deescalate situations in which emotions run high. All officers are specially trained in response control tactics and techniques and are called to respond to occurrences of workplace violence and fire safety. The PSS team is trained and leads our first response to significant events such as (Code Lockdown & Active Shooter, Abducted Child, Building Evacuation, Bomb Threats, etc.). The PSS team controls card access privileges at each of the medical centers; officers are trained to confront all unauthorized persons and, when necessary, contact local law enforcement for assistance. Additionally, PSS has an Investigations Office, which conducts follow-up investigations for all significant cases (i.e., Suspicion of Drug Diversion, Allegations of Assault, Domestic Violence, Workplace Violence, etc.); and an Emergency Management Office, which is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and implementation of emergency management standards system-wide to facilitate a safe environment.
