The Campus Security Supervisor is tasked with overseeing the security operations and the safety and protection of persons, property and other assets of Bard College. This position will oversee the day to day work related to managing security personnel, including scheduling, work assignments, training, performance feedback, incident response and all related matters. The Security Supervisor will also be responsible for monitoring and managing campus safety systems, and will take point on implementing and training on all safety related protocols. Maintaining a positive and responsive relationship between security personnel and the campus community will be a priority for this role. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Assistant Director of Security.
The successful candidate will be able to communicate and build effective relationships in a college community that is broadly diverse with regard to race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, gender identity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
Job Duties
Provides supervision to security officers on all assigned shifts. Manages all related communication including work schedules, assignments, campus alerts and other department related information.
Regularly reviews performance, equipment and appearance.
Assist in foot and/or mobile patrol.
Coordinates training for security personnel.
Responds to and resolves complaints.
Responsible for maintenance and management of all required documentation, both for internal purposes and for external compliance reporting. Including shift logs, incident reporting and attendance records.
Ensures that property and equipment are in working order, including security cameras, alarm and access control systems.
Must understand and adhere to Bard college rules, policies, and directives.
Operate and monitor timekeeping systems.
Attend, and satisfactorily complete, all required training.
Must be available to work any shifts required to include day, evening, night, weekends and holidays.
Ability to be certified in first aid, CPR and AED safety protocols
All other duties as assigned.
Valid New York State driver's license.
Three years of supervisory experience required. Work experience in Higher Education is a plus.
Associate?s degree in criminal justice or related field preferred.
Demonstrated skills and experience in conflict resolution, de-escalation tactics and investigations.
Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Suites, including advanced skills in excel.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
A pleasant, courteous, and professional manner and appearance are required.
Excellent judgment and critical thinking skills are a must.
Must be self-motivated, detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
Must meet and maintain the license requirements for an unarmed private security license under the provisions of the State of New York.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to traverse the campus on foot, including ascending and descending stairs, in the course of patrolling the campus.
Must be able to operate telephones, two-way radios, computers, as well as safety and security equipment in the course of communicating with security personnel and the campus community.
Ability to discern, communicate and exchange accurate information, using all methods of communication, when responding to complaints and in the course of managing the security personnel.
