Position Summary:
The Assistant Director of Security at Cardozo Law School reports to the Chief of Security of Yeshiva University and oversees the day-to-day operations of the Cardozo Security Department. This department is a unit within the Department of Administrative Services.
The Assistant Director of Security at Cardozo Law School will be the senior security administrator on campus and must demonstrate skill in dealing with bureaucratic protocol at all levels of the Security Department, along with other law school and university departments. He/She must be committed to serving the interests of the Cardozo Law School and Yeshiva University community in implementing the strategic goals of the Security Department. He/She will implement corrective disciplinary and/or procedural action, when appropriate, ensuring that investigations are conducted in a timely, thorough, objective & consistent manner.
Work Schedules: Monday - Thursday - 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Friday - 8:00 am - 1:30 pm
Position Responsibilities:
Maintains the Cardozo Law School/Yeshiva University's written emergency management plans, policies, and protocols to ensure ongoing compliance with established standards and requirements of the four phases of Emergency management; conducts vulnerability assessments; identifies programmatic revisions and develops/updates plans as appropriate
Develops and maintains the Cardozo Law School/Yeshiva University's Emergency Response Plans
Maintains, develops, and enhances current Disaster Recovery and Continuity of Operations Plans, designed to restore the Cardozo Law School/Yeshiva University to normal operations after a significant event on campus
Manages all emergency situations arising on campus, including but not limited to personal injuries, fires, threats to persons, and all other emergency incidents
Coordinates responses by all appropriate campus resources during an actual event, including, but not limited to, security, environmental health and safety, facilities management, media relations, student affairs, and university technology offices to ensure timely and effective response
Plans and develops content of messages designed to alert the campus community, as well as external resources, of an evolving event on campus
Provides training to identified individuals who may be required to communicate emergency information to the campus community during an event
Understands, adheres to, and enforces all security department rules and regulations, policies, procedures, and written memorandum
Works cooperatively and serves as a liaison with city, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Reports all security and safety violations and hazards to the appropriate campus authority
Works to identify new sources of technology designed for safety and emergency response
Make timely, sound decisions and accept concomitant responsibility.
Manages Security Department staff, including Security Shift Supervisors and all contract security personnel
Develop the skills of staff and prepare personnel for increased responsibilities
Ability to evaluate job performance of employees through observation and/or review of work product
Negotiate compromises with others
Experience & Educational Background:
A minimum of 10 years of supervisory experience required, preferably in a law enforcement, public safety, or university environment
Valid driver's license
The ability to meet the standards set forth by the State of New York to become a law enforcement officer is required
Campus law enforcement experience preferred
Knowledge of basic financial management methods, techniques, and procedures is required
Skills & Competencies:
The ability to remain calm and objective throughout stressful and unpleasant situations is required
Ability to use electronic equipment, including but not limited to PC's, two-way radios, cell phones, cameras, copy machines, and telephones
Knowledge of guidelines for recruitment, selection, and promotion is required
Knowledge of the disciplinary and grievance procedures of the university is required
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with local law enforcement officials and the general public
Salary Range:
$85,000 - $95,000
