The Director of Executive Protection is an integral part of a dedicated and highly skilled team, responsible for providing outstanding customized service to our clients. Maintaining a high level of client satisfaction is critical to the success of this position. The individual in this role is responsible for leading the team and providing security and administrative services for the Principals and their assets; and supervising and administering the necessary activities to ensure the personal security, privacy, and confidentiality of the Principals.
Leadership: Effectively lead others to ensure a professional and highly competent team. Provide ongoing feedback; develop, mentor, and motivate direct reports; lead by setting a good example; create an environment oriented to trust, open communication, and cohesive team effort; effectively delegate while serving as a “hands-on” working leader. Coach, train, and schedule team members. Manage day-to-day operations, workload, and priorities. Set goals and direction; manage and evaluate performance. Make hiring decisions, compensation recommendations, and other staffing-related decisions.
Security Activities: Assume overall responsibility for the safety of Principals at all times, including personal security, privacy, and confidentiality of business and personal matters. Coordinate security and residences of Principals, including establishment of security policy. Advise Principals on security measures. Observe, identify, and handle all situations unwanted, unnecessary, and/or threatening to the Principals. Investigate threats against the Principals; assess risk and mitigate threats on a consistent basis. Operate motor vehicles in a safe and legal manner; security transport Principals and assets. Respond to emergencies and render aid as able. Systemically monitor early-warning detection systems, security alarms, and cameras to identify and resolve security risks. Perform security advances of businesses, events, and personal travel locations to ensure the personal protection and safety of the Principals. Travel in support of protective operations, both domestically and internationally. Oversee evaluation of background checks for prospective employees. Participate in periodic training on security measures and skills.
Administrative: Coordinate activities, transportation, changes in travel plans, and other requests of the Principals. Identify and plan routes to and from a variety of points of destinations, e.g., meetings, conventions, travel, etc., and select the appropriate means of travel. Coordinate a variety of services and cultivate relationships with local, state, and federal police, fire and medical emergency agencies as required. Coordinate necessary security coverage per destination or activity needs. Handle and account for cash transactions for Principals’ personal purchases or purchases for necessary equipment, manpower, and/or security services. Work with others to secure property and equipment during extended trips to ensure Principals’ security. Research and write security plans and procedures. Oversee and approve purchases of medical supplies, specialized equipment, etc. Oversee electronic records, databases, and information. Determine feasibility of Intelligence and other software implementations. Work effectively with other staff and corporate employees as required.
Other: Represent Principals in accordance with their personal and professional standards of conduct and ethics. Contribute to the simplification and efficiency of the daily activities of the Principals. Provide personal service in a gracious manner. Exercise sound independent judgment and an appropriate sense of urgency, as well as flexibility to shifting priorities and challenges. Effectively collaborate and communicate with others; attentively listen, ask questions, work well with others, and demonstrate a desire to be part of a team. Complete other duties as assigned. Preservation of a peaceful atmosphere is essential. Responsibilities should be carried out with minimum intrusiveness into activities of the Principals. This requires flexibility and ingenuity with sensitivity to privacy of the Principals at all times.
Bachelor’s degree preferred. At least ten years of progressively more responsible executive protection experience required. Leadership experience required. Accredited executive protection program training required. Security driving or evasive driving training experience desirable. Domestic and/or International Security experience required. Demonstrated exceptional results in a client-service role. First Aid/CPR Certification required. Ability to obtain Concealed Weapon Permit required. Possession of valid U.S. passport and driver’s license required. First Responder/EMT Certification desirable. Possess strong initiative while maintaining a highly collaborative work style. Must be highly flexible, stress-tolerant, and motivated, with an ability to work independently as well as in a team setting. Position requires a person of highest personal integrity who is well organized, flexible in work schedule requirements, and able to handle multiple projects and situations calmly and effectively. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential in order to effectively interact with other staff and with professional and personal Principal contacts. Must be responsible, dedicated, dependable, and self-directed; positive in attitude; and one who demonstrates pride in service which he/she provides. Extensive domestic and international travel required. Working evenings, weekends, and holidays required. Flexibility to work an ever-changing schedule, and be available at a moment’s notice. The Principals’ privacy and security are of critical importance; must have an uncompromised commitment to the highest level of confidentiality and sensitivity to privacy in all aspects of job responsibilities at all times.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Ability to work at a physically demanding pace at times. Ability to lift forty (50) pounds to a maximum height of six (6) feet; occasional lifting to eighty (80) pounds. Ability to remain standing for lengthy periods of time; climb steps and stairs; stoop, bend, and kneel; push/pull. Ability to load and unload equipment and supplies. Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions as needed.
