Job Description
Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, is seeking a Cybersecurity and Network Technology faculty member to fill a position starting August 2022.
Since 2004, Montgomery College has been a core institution in establishing and promoting regional cybersecurity education. The College offers a Cybersecurity degree and an Advanced Network Security Certificate program, as well as non-credit courses in cybersecurity.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who exhibits a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to our students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a multi-cultural, two-year environment focused on students with diverse learning abilities. Important qualities expected in the candidate include strong verbal and written communication skills, experience working with students of different backgrounds, and commitment to the community college mission. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Faculty member will teach 30 equivalent semester hours per academic year of courses related to Cybersecurity and Networking.
Faculty member is expected to advise and tutor students.
Faculty member must be willing to participate in club sponsorships.
Faculty member will mentor students, and also be an effective student advocate, particularly for students who are transferring to 4-year institutions.
Faculty member will advise students about transfer and proactively arranging for scholarship/ research or internship opportunities.
Faculty member is expected to teach a varied schedule that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
While the home campus will be Germantown, successful candidate is expected to engage in cross campus teaching (e.g. Rockville and TPSS) when needed and assigned.
Faculty member will serve on, or lead, department, discipline, campus and college committees
Faculty member will maintain an active program of professional development and participate in professional organizations and activities.
Conduct assigned classes in accordance with the college catalog description, the master course syllabi, the stipulations of the College, and the Cybersecurity program.
Maintain standards of teaching consistent with the standards of the Cybersecurity department and the College.
Faculty member will be able to teach a range of introductory and advance courses including, but not limited to:
Network Security (CompTIA Security+)
Defending the Network
Attacker Tools and Techniques
Digital Forensics
Incident Response
Wireless Security
Cybersecurity Capstone (ISC2 CISSP)
Introduction to Scripting
Unix/Linux System Administration
Required Qualifications:
A Master's Degree or higher in Cybersecurity or related discipline, or a Master's Degree or higher in any discipline with 5 years of industry experience in cybersecurity field. Master's degree must be completed by January 2022.
At least one year of recent full-time or equivalent teaching experience.
Experience designing and/or setting up hands-on labs.
Knowledge of Linux, Windows (client and server) environments, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, wireless security, incident response, and/or digital forensics.
Proficiency with scripting languages.
Faculty members are expected to have access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.
Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
Hold a CompTIA Security+ and other professional certifications (i.e. CISSP, CEH, other security industry certifications).
Hold a current CompTIA A+ Certification.
Teaching in a distance-learning environment.
Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Hiring Range: $62,319-90,398.
